A large aquarium at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront, opened in 1995, showing the sea life of the two oceans that meet off South Africa, the cold Atlantic and the warm Indian Ocean. Its best-known exhibit is the kelp forest, a towering tank where giant kelp sways as it does off the Atlantic coast, and the large ocean tank, where ragged-tooth sharks, rays, shoals of fish and sea turtles swim. The aquarium also has African penguins, glowing jellyfish, touch pools for children, and a programme that rescues young sea turtles washed onto the beaches and returns them to the ocean. Daily feeding shows are held. It opens daily from 9.30 am to 6 pm, and tickets are cheaper online, per the aquarium. It is a good family choice on rainy or very windy days.
