A historic society for the art of stone seal carving on Gushan, the island hill in West Lake, beside Xiling Bridge. It was founded in 1904 by a group of seal carvers, with the great artist Wu Changshuo as its first president, is nicknamed «the first society under heaven», and its grounds became a national protected monument in 2001. Its home is a terraced garden on the hillside with pavilions, stone paths, rock inscriptions and an ancient stele from the Eastern Han, and its top looks out over West Lake; the seal-carving art it guards is listed as national cultural heritage. Wandering the garden is free, per visitor guides, and it combines easily with a walk around Gushan and Xiling Bridge on West Lake.
