The Mundéu Fountain, originally the Fountain of the Largo da Conceição, is a public fountain in central Cuiabá, capital of Mato Grosso. It takes its name from the «Largo do Mundéu», the old name of the square where it stands. It was commissioned by Francisco José Cardoso Júnior, president of the province of Mato Grosso, who saw the city's need for a steady water supply, and designed with its water system by the military engineer Francisco Nunes da Cunha. The fountain was built in a late, eclectic neoclassical style, one of many neoclassical structures in Cuiabá's historic centre. It stopped working in 1910 but was kept as a store for the square's gardening tools, and it was photographed soon after it was built, so its original structure and architectural details survive intact. The fountain has been listed as Mato Grosso state heritage since 1980 and was restored by the state in 2006. It stands in a small square on Avenida Tenente Coronel Duarte and makes a short stop on a walk around the historic centre of the city, the gateway to the Pantanal.
