A performance hall from 1941 in central Porto, among the city's most important examples of modern architecture and a landmark of Rua de Passos Manuel. The building combines Art Deco with early modernism, with a curved facade and a large interior designed from the start to serve several roles — concerts, circus, theatre and cinema. The main hall seats thousands and still functions as Porto's principal venue. The building's story is part of its local identity: in the 1990s it came close to being sold and converted, and a broad public campaign raised funds to save it and succeeded. People in Porto treat it as public property rather than a commercial hall. A practical point: this is not a daytime site.
