The city's emblem on four legs: the Dragon Bridge (1901) was the city's first reinforced-concrete bridge and among Europe's earliest, in Vienna Secession style with green copper — and on its corners four copper dragons with spread wings became Ljubljana's crest: legend says Jason and the Argonauts slew a dragon in the city's marshes, and the city adopted killer and killed alike. The folk tale: the dragons wag their tails when a virgin crosses — and the city has laughed at it for a century. The bridge stands at the edge of the central market over the Ljubljanica river, the classic photo from the eastern bank or from the neighbouring Butchers' Bridge with its padlocks. Minutes suffice, but it is the natural start of the riverside walk: market, then Butchers' Bridge, then the Triple Bridge and Prešeren Square.
