A riverside market by Plečnik: the Central Market stretches between the Triple Bridge and the Dragon Bridge — the open Vodnik Square with stalls of vegetables, fruit and flowers from nearby farms, the covered market of cheese, meat and bakery, and Plečnik's long arcaded colonnade on the bank with fishmongers below and cafés above. Crafts, Slovenian honey, green pumpkin-seed oil (the country's taste) and the rolled potica cake fill the stalls — and on summer Fridays it becomes the Open Kitchen: dozens of restaurants cooking in the square, the city's most famous weekly date. Half an hour in the morning explains Slovenian food and stocks your picnic, with the cathedral directly behind.
