Estação das Docas is a leisure complex on the Guajará Bay waterfront, created by restoring three iron warehouses of Belém's old port, built from 1909 with English iron, with American cranes still standing on the quay. It opened on 13 May 2000, turning a run-down area into a 500-metre waterfront promenade. The warehouses hold restaurants serving Amazon dishes, craft shops and exhibitions, and at one end the ruins of a fort from 1665 have been turned into an open-air amphitheatre. Boat trips on the bay leave from here. The best time is late afternoon, for the sunset over the bay, followed by dinner on the waterfront. It is a short walk from Ver-o-Peso market.
