EXPERIMINTA is a hands-on science centre in Bockenheim built on a single rule: everything is meant to be touched and worked by hand. It holds more than two hundred experiment stations across nine themed areas covering motion, force, flight, energy and environment, vibration and numbers, optics, puzzles and manual skill. There are no long panels to read, only machines to turn, push and try. The centre grew out of a local civic initiative rather than a government decision and runs as a non-profit whose stated purpose is to make science, maths and engineering appealing to schoolchildren in the region. That explains how it feels: closer to an enormous school workshop than to a polished museum, plain in its fittings, with all the attention on the experiment itself. On weekday mornings outside the holidays it fills up with school groups. Pay attention to the opening pattern, because it changes with the Hessian school holidays. Outside the holidays it runs Monday to Friday in the morning only, closing at two in the afternoon, with weekends until half past five; during the holidays it opens daily into the afternoon. Adults pay fourteen euros, students and pensioners nine euros fifty, children aged three to five three euros fifty, and a family ticket costs thirty-three. Six and over is the age where it really starts to work.
