The Palmengarten is a large botanical garden in Frankfurt, opened in 1871 and covering more than twenty hectares. Its great glasshouses hold plants from different climates: a hot, humid rainforest, a desert of cacti, a subtropical zone and an orchid house. Outside the glasshouses are wide gardens, lawns and a small lake with boats for hire in summer, plus playgrounds and a little train. It is one of the best family places in Frankfurt, good for a full day in fine weather or as a warm refuge inside the glasshouses in winter.

Very much so: wide space, playgrounds, a little train and boats in summer. The glasshouses appeal to children too, especially the rainforest and the cacti. A full family day is easily possible.
Two hours for the glasshouses and main gardens, half a day to a full day with children or if you want to sit and enjoy it. The garden is larger than you expect.
Yes — it is one of Frankfurt's best options in winter and rain: the glasshouses are warm, large and full of green. The outdoor gardens are bare then, but the inside makes up for it.
