Fløibanen is Bergen's most famous elevator to the sky: a venerable funicular (1918) lifting you from the city heart to Fløyen's summit (320m) in eight hung minutes over Bryggen's red roofs and the harbour — near-uncontested Norway's most yearly-visited attraction, its summit view the reason Bergen is called the City of Seven Mountains. The top is a complete world: a view restaurant, a goat playground for children (genuinely pettable), and a fairly level trail network reaching small forest lakes — a half-hour family stroll or hours more toward neighbouring peaks for those wanting more. Weather is the decisive factor: Bergen is Norway's rain city (over 200 rain days yearly), so climbing on a relatively rare clear day is worth the early rise — and the summer sunset from the summit (until near-midnight this far north) is practically the greatest free Norwegian view, beyond the ride's own ticket.
