Fortaleza's Japanese Garden, officially the Jusaku Fujita Japanese Garden, lies on the seafront Avenida Beira-Mar in the Meireles district, on the site of the old Praça da Independência, popularly known as «Granvile». It covers about 1,900 square metres with springs, small lakes and an oriental-style pavilion, and it honours Jusaku Fujita, the first Japanese immigrant to reach the state of Ceará. The garden went through periods of neglect before the city refurbished it in July 2026, repairing its railings, paving and pavilion roof and cleaning off graffiti, and it now hosts fairs inspired by East Asian culture. It makes a quiet short stop on a walk along the seafront.
