The Fortaleza Museum of Photography holds one of the largest photographic collections in Brazil. It was founded and is run by the Paula and Silvio Frota Institute, in the Varjota district near the city's seafront. The building opened in 2017, designed by Marcus Novais Arquitetura, with 1,940 square metres across five floors. It holds permanent and temporary exhibition halls, a multipurpose room for workshops and talks, a café, a library and a shop, with a technical store for the collection in the basement. The permanent collection shows works from the 1920s to today by leading Brazilian and international photographers, and temporary exhibitions change through the year. Allow an hour or two, and check opening times before visiting.
