The Old Masters Picture Gallery is one of Europe's most important painting collections, housed in the Semper wing attached to the Zwinger in Dresden. Its pictures were gathered by the rulers of Saxony in the eighteenth century, above all Augustus III, who bought major works out of Italy. Its most famous painting is Raphael's Sistine Madonna, whose two small angels at the foot are among the most reproduced images in the world โ you find them on mugs and cards everywhere, without most people knowing where they came from. There are also works by Vermeer, Rembrandt, Titian and Rubens, and a strong holding of Italian and Dutch painting.
