Orla Bardot is a seafront promenade on Armação beach in the heart of Búzios, named after the French actress Brigitte Bardot, whose visits in the 1960s made the town famous worldwide. Before that the beach belonged to fishermen alone, and between 1728 and 1768 it held a whaling station, which gave the town its name, Armação; the Sant'Anna church on the nearby hill is the only building left from that era. The promenade was renewed in 1999 with stone paving, trees and statues honouring the actress, the fishermen and the Brazilian president Kubitschek. Fishing boats still moor in the water in front, facing the small Ilha do Caboclo. Schooner trips to the beaches and islands of Búzios leave from its pier. It is nicest for a walk late in the day.
