Bruges' five landings are similar (30 minutes, near-uniform price), the closest to the Rozenhoedkaai at the Dijver and Huidenvettersplein. Early morning has the shortest queues. The boat passes beneath low bridges and views unseen from land โ one tour is worth it, and better value than the horse carriage.

The Rozenhoedkaai ("Rosary Quay") is Bruges' most famous and most photographed view: a corner on the canal where the Dijver meets the Groenerei, opening onto a complete painting โ the still water, the stone step-gabled houses on the bank, the overhanging trees, and the Belfry rising above everything behind. The postcard that made Bruges the "Venice of the North". It was a quay for selling rosaries (hence the name) and sea salt in the Middle Ages; today it is the departure point of the nearby canal boats and the gathering point of photographers. Loveliest early morning before the crowds, at sunset when the sun gilds the Belfry, and at night with the lights and their reflections โ three visits for three photographs. Three minutes from the Markt and the Burg โ impossible to miss, and any route will lead you to it.
