The Solar do Jambeiro, also known as the Palacete Bartholdy, is a historic house in the São Domingos district of Niterói, on Guanabara Bay facing Rio de Janeiro. It was built in 1872 by the Portuguese merchant Bento Joaquim Alves Pereira on a small farm on Rua Presidente Domiciano, and its façade is known for its Portuguese glazed tiles. It was its builder's home, then let to a doctor, and from May 1887 to March 1888 the famous painter Antônio Parreiras lived here before building his own house nearby, now a museum. In 1892 the owner sold it to the Danish diplomat Georg Christian Bartholdy, who lived here for nearly thirty years and gave it its second name. Today the mansion is a cultural centre run by Niterói's arts foundation, hosting fine-art exhibitions, seminars, courses in heritage conservation and restoration, and theatre and music. Entry is usually free; pair it with the nearby Antônio Parreiras Museum.
