A small green island in Qingdao Bay southeast of Zhanqiao Pier, whose name means «Little Qingdao», since the whole city took its name from it; it covers no more than 0.024 square kilometres and is linked to the shore by a stone causeway. Its best-known feature is the white octagonal lighthouse the Germans built of white marble in 1904, 12.5 metres high and still working today; at night, with its light reflected on the water, it is one of the loveliest sights in the bay. Locals also call it «Zither Island» because its outline resembles the ancient Chinese qin, and it holds a small park, paths around the rocks and views of the old town and the cathedral, with the Chinese Navy Museum facing it on the shore. Tickets are about CNY 15 from April to October and about CNY 10 the rest of the year, with opening from 7:30 to 18:00 in summer, per visitor guides. Late afternoon is the loveliest time, and it pairs with Zhanqiao Pier and Lu Xun Park along the coast.
