A small hill 60 metres high near the sea in old Qingdao, whose name means «Little Fish Hill»; it was the city's first hilltop park in the classical Chinese garden style and covers about 2.5 hectares. On its summit stands the Lanchao Pavilion, a traditional three-storey tower with curved roofs, and from its balconies you take in some of the finest coastal views: Zhanqiao Pier, the islet of Xiaoqingdao and its lighthouse, Lu Xun Park, No. 1 Beach and the Badaguan quarter. Lanes and steps climb to the top between old houses and trees, past green-tiled walls carved with little fish; it is quieter than Signal Hill and completes the picture of the old town from the south. Entry has been free since September 2021, with the park open from 6:00 to 20:00 in summer and until 19:00 in winter, per visitor guides. Sunset, when the coast lights up below, is the loveliest time.
