The Bosque dos Jequitibás is a park in the Bosque district of central Campinas, created in the 1880s and one of the city's largest and oldest leisure areas, with about a million visitors a year. It covers about 10 hectares, 2.33 of them native Atlantic Forest, and is named after its giant jequitibá trees. The land, known as the «Campo das Caneleiras», belonged to Francisco Bueno de Miranda, who opened it in 1880 as a pleasure ground for the townspeople, with an English-style garden design by the architect Ramos de Azevedo. Emperor Pedro II visited in 1886 and was impressed, and the city bought it in 1915. In 1970 it became the first site in Campinas to be listed as state heritage. The woods hold a small zoo of wild animals, a natural history museum, an aquarium and a children's theatre. They closed temporarily in 2023 for tree work after heavy rains, and 2026 reports describe the park as open; check times before you go.
