The Centro de Convivência Cultural «Carlos Gomes», popularly the Centro de Convivência, is an architectural complex in the Cambuí district of Campinas, designed by the architect Fábio Penteado and opened on 9 September 1976. Before that the site held Campinas' Passeio Público, a public garden built between 1876 and 1882 on the model of Rio's. Penteado drew up the design in 1967, merging ideas from two earlier competition entries, and the modernist concrete building came with an open amphitheatre, a theatre and spaces for people to meet in the heart of the district, intended as a place of coexistence and the arts. After fourteen years closed for restoration, the centre reopened in July 2025 and drew more than 64,000 visitors to 80 events by May 2026. It is worth a stop for its architecture and its programme of shows and concerts; check what is on before visiting.
