The idea is similar but the model differs: Urban Nation is a supported institution with free entry, while MUCA is a private collection with a higher ticket. MUCA is smaller but its underground space is more visually distinctive. If this art interests you both are worth it; if you must choose one, Berlin is itself a far richer street art city than Munich.

MUCA is Germany's first museum devoted to street art and contemporary urban art, opened in 2016 in a former underground electricity substation in central Munich โ and the raw industrial space suits the work better than any white gallery would. The collection is private, assembled by a couple who collect in the field, and it holds work by international names: Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Invader, Os Gemeos and others. The usual contradiction in this art is present here too โ work that began on walls without permission, now framed inside a ticketed museum. The museum addresses that by keeping part of its activity outside: it commissions artists to paint murals across the city, and hosts large installations in the underground space that would be difficult to mount elsewhere. Its location is entirely central near Marienplatz, and the exhibitions change several times a year.
