Ljubljana's largest park and its best loved: Tivoli is five square kilometres of walks, meadows and forest beginning five minutes from the centre — and the Jakopič Promenade Plečnik designed with its stone lamps is a permanent open-air photo gallery showing a different collection every few months, ending at Tivoli Mansion with its print-art centre. It holds the Museum of Contemporary History in Cekin Mansion, the greenhouse with its plants, playgrounds, ponds and turtles, then Rožnik forest climbing to a hilltop church with a view and a restaurant — half an hour up and the locals' sports rendezvous. The park is Ljubljana's Sunday place: strolling, ice cream and running, with summer festivals on its open stage.
