Central Guangzhou's largest park, covering about 86 hectares on and around Yuexiu Hill, which once formed the northern end of the walled city; today it brings together green hills, lakes and historic sights in the heart of the modern city. Its best-known sight is the Five Rams sculpture on the hilltop, made of more than 130 pieces of granite, the emblem of Guangzhou, inspired by a folk legend of rams that brought rice stalks to the city and ended a famine, which gave Guangzhou its nickname «City of Rams». Also on the hill is the five-storey, 28 m Zhenhai Tower from the Ming era, home to the Guangzhou Museum and the city's story since its founding, along with remnants of the old city wall, shady paths and lakes for a stroll. The park is free, while Zhenhai Tower costs about CNY 10, Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–17:30, per visitor guides. The climb to the top is easy, and early morning is the best time, when residents are out doing their morning exercise.
